How To Solve One-Step Equation?

Equation With Addition:

This equation normally belongs to Linear Equations. These equations involve one variable and a constant value with an addition or subtraction sign from one side and the other side will be consist of a constant value. Like " x + a =b" or " x - a = b"

In order to solve a one-step equation need to use inverse operation. It means that if the equation had a constant with “+”, You will add “-” with the same constant to cancel the same content. If you have an equation with “-” you will use “+”.

Example:

X + 5 = 7

Solution:

To get the solution. Apply inverse operation.

Add “-5” on both sides from the above equation. Because equation had +5

X + 5 - 5 = 7 - 5

+5 will be canceled with -5 on the left side of the equation and 5 will subtract from 7 on the right side. We will get 

X = 2

Example:

X - 2 = 8

Solution:

To get the solution. Apply inverse operation.

Add “+2” on both sides from the above equation. Because equation had -2

X - 2  + 2 = 8 + 2

-2  will be canceled with +2 on the left side of the equation and 2  will be added in 8 on the right side. We will get

X = 10

Equation With Multiplication:

This equation normally belongs to Linear Equations. These equations involve one variable with the multiplication or division of a constant value from one side and the other side will be consist of a constant value. Like " ax=b" or " a/x = b"

In order to solve a one-step equation with multiplication, need to use inverse operation. It means that if the equation involves multiplication you need to apply division to get the variable value. For division, the condition will be reversed, if the equation involves division apply multiplication to get the value.

Example:

3X = 18

Solution:

Apply inverse operation. Above equation divided by “+3+ on both sides:

3X /3 = 18/3

3 will be canceled with 3 on the left side and 18 will be canceled with 3 on the right side of the equation. We will get it.

X = 6

Division Example:

X/5 = 100

Solution:

For this condition, Multiply 5 on both sides to get the value of the variable 

X×5 /5 = 100 × 5

5 will be canceled from left and 100 will be multiplied by 5.

X = 500
